Professional Liability

The Commonwealth of Virginia's Public Liability Plan provides professional liability insurance, including medical malpractice coverage.

Medical Malpractice

Health care professionals, residents, and health care professional students are provided medical malpractice coverage for those acts or omissions arising out of the course of their employment or authorization on behalf of the university. Coverage is provided up to the malpractice cap in Virginia as outlined in Virginia Code Section 8.01-581.15. Coverage is not provided for non-university activities.

Other Professional Liability

Students  participating in a Virginia Tech-facilitated clinical, internship, externship, or other educadtional program in order to meet a pedagogical requirement are also afforded coverage. Please note that students who arrange for their own internships, externships, etc. outside of those arranged by Virginia Tech are not covered.
